Managing your Finances for a Successful Retirement

Monday, September 14th, 2009

If you had planned to rely on stock market investments for your retirement, you better find a plan B fast. After the market tumble, many seniors who had their savings tied to stocks soon realized their mistake. Depending on the success of national economics can be like depending on a sand hill for a housing foundation.

Many of these seniors now realize that with annuity, retirement is more secure. They’re transferring what’s left over to annuity. They choose to buy annuity because they realize nothing is more fickle than the stock market. Annuities don’t lose their value. If needed, selling annuity is always an option.

Understandably, one of the worst concerns of seniors is outliving their savings. This is especially true when hit by stock market losses as funds that were supposed to last years are no longer exist. You shouldn’t have to worry about dying before you run out of money. Your retirement should be spent satisfied, financially secure and worry free.

In terms of annuity, retirement security comes down to knowing you’ll always have an income no matter how long you live, no matter what happens in the stock market. If you choose to buy annuity today, it will be a financial resource for as long as you live. Plus, you can invariably sell the annuity if you no longer need it. There’s a strong demand in the market for selling annuity. It’s a great asset, whether you use it to depend on for the rest of your life or use it as a resource later down the road.

Be stable in retirement. You’ve worked hard, and the last thing you need to worry about at the end of your life is where your income is coming from. With annuity, you can rest assured there will be a check in the mail, lifelong, with the contentment that you’ll never outlast your income.

In the Bridal Spirit

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Lately it seems like all the women around me are getting hitched! For the next few months, my calendar is full of weddings, bridal showers and—best of all—bachelorette parties! You know what that means—lots of lingerie purchases to be made!

In my group of friends I’m known for being that vulgar little devil that supplies all the dirty girl products at the parties, and I’m okay with that. It’s fun, and the ladies appreciate the naughtiness. It’s my goal to spice things up a bit. Isn’t the whole point of bachelorette parties to get raunchy with your girlfriends? I think so. So why waste time buying granny panties? Bridal lingerie is meant to be exciting, sexy, spicy, fun, etc. Save all the lackluster stuff for AFTER the wedding!

Since I’m the one that gets stuck doing most of the party planning, I make sure every party guest gets some spice in her life… not just the bride-to-be. Remember when you were a kid, and there would be little gift bags for all the children with candy, toys, stickers and other party favors? Well, I think that is a fabulous idea for bachelorette parties as well. Of course, the special girl will get her special bag with her special bridal lingerie and other honeymoon goodies. Then I’ll make a separate set of gift bags for the other ladies with items like leather lingerie, flavored lube and edible underwear. I know, leather lingerie might be a bit “out there,” but it’s definitely worth a try!

I mean, I see bachelorette parties as motivation for all the girls to get naughty. As a matter of fact, the bride-to-be in many cases is the one who is most behaved! So it’s our job as partygoers to join in the festivities the right way, with lingerie and other sexy party favors!

Ethical Computer Service for Your Firm

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Finding it difficult to locate a reliable computer service company who communicates on your level with round the clock support?

In an age of global communication and commerce, computers play an increasingly vital role both at home and in the business world, large and small. As the technology moves forward at breakneck speed, the gap between user and technician grows leaving a margin of confusion that can be a limiting factor without proper IT consulting. Chicago offers a number of companies promising to be your computer emergency hotline, yet too often you may find yourself left with an even greater sense of perplexity.

So what should you be looking for in a reliable computer service? Chicago can provide the established business or upstart entrepreneur a host of dependable services to meet your computer needs. From network security to server virtualization and even third part software help, you deserve onsite technical support with a friendly technician who speaks your language.

High quality communication between user and consultant is a must. If you do not understand what the technician is explaining, chances are the same problems will reoccur over time. This can lead to frustration and decrease in productivity. Getting involved with your computer network will give you specific insight into what exactly your business needs to move ahead.

For an added level of reassurance, enjoy the advantages of having a one on one relationship with your IT account manager. No need to waste time listening to cheesy customer service jingles while you wait for the next available representative. Just pick up the phone and dial your consultant directly, speaking with someone who knows your system and can dive right into diagnosing the problem so you don’t miss a step.

Your computer network is a member of your team, quite possibly the most heavily burdened of all. Give it a chance to help your business thrive day in and day out without the need to develop an entire branch to oversee its health. Working with a computer service who is on top of the latest technology that will fix the problem and ask questions, and bill you, later, will save your business both time and money.

For Glass Design, Architects Should Use Special CAD

Monday, July 13th, 2009

As an architect specializing in commercial use real estate – office buildings, retail, and mixed use – I am frequently asked by customers to employ glass to create inexpensive, modern facades that let light in and can be erected quickly and without the expense of traditional brick & mortar architecture. The work of a glass architect, however, is different from designing in brick and mortar because there are more factors that need to be considered to successfully engineer a curtain wall that can support both the dead load, it’s own weight, and seismic and wind loads that put stress on what is essentially a large sail as the facade of the building. While regular CAD certainly permits the design of so-called “glazed” buildings, it requires a lot of input on my end to ensure that my design is both structurally sound, thermally efficient, and of course good-looking.

Because I am principally an architect and not an engineer, I find this aspect of traditional CAD to make it a little awkward to work with when putting together glass drawings. Beyond its non-specificity, conventional CAD environments also require to me create new objects for facades, rather than giving me a stock list of parts or object types, which takes up a tremendous amount of my time and requires me to create objects from stock spec lists or else research the feasibility of custom glass fixings, panels, etc.

A few years ago I was referred by a mall designer to Athena, a software suite put together by Glazier, a company that specializes in software for use by the serious glass architect. Because it is constructed specifically for work in glass, it has made my work not only easier, but made it easier to be creative; and because it is loaded with stock objects for designing in glass, I can design faster, which has allowed me to bid on more projects. On top of all of this, the software includes tools for cost estimation, specifications for individual parts, and all of the other aspects of conventional CAD, except that it is tailored specifically for glass drawings.

While it is certainly possible to design glass facades in conventional CAD, at this point it seems like shear insanity to me. Having the right tools for any job includes having the right software for the type of design, and having a drawing environment and a whole host of tools that enhance and support it is something I recommend to anyone who could benefit from faster, more accurate, and more intuitive design.
